More About Ricky
October 24th, 1996. Game 5 of the World Series between the Atlanta Braves and the New York Yankees. Andy Pettitte pitched 8 shutout innings to lead the Yankees to victory, I barely remember the game; what I do remember is my Mom. She threw open the front door and shouted to the neighborhood, “Andy *explicit* Pettite, baby!!” (swearing wasn’t a taboo in our house.). I had never seen her so excited. It was right then and there that I knew- I wanted to be Andy Pettitte. Several years and unattained growth spurts later I realized how genetics work, and concluded that my being an MLB player was, at best, a statistical impossibility. In what was purely an existential panic move, I did the only reasonable thing I could think to do- I became an actor. All this to say that the next time you enjoy a performance of mine, you thank number 46.
